Running for Those Who Cannot Run Free: My 100km Weekly Challenge for The Humane League
For the remainder of 2025, I'm taking on what might be my most meaningful endurance challenge yet: running 100 kilometers every single week while raising funds for The Humane League's mission to end factory farming.

Effective Altruism, Giving Strategy
The Challenge
Here's what I'm committing to:
100 kilometers per week through the end of 2025
$1 donation for every kilometer I run from my own pocket - that's $100 per week
A $10,000 fundraising goal for The Humane League by year's end
But this challenge is bigger than my kilometers and bigger than my personal donation.
Why This Matters
Over 9 billion land animals suffer in factory farms across the U.S. every year. I cannot stand by while they endure unimaginable conditions for our food system.
I'll be honest with you - I don't yet follow a vegan diet. Currently, I'm pescatarian, and I've felt the benefits to both my physical health and mental clarity as I've gradually reduced animal products from my diet over the past three years.
My relationship with animals and food isn't theoretical. I worked summers on my family's farm. I've hunted and killed game. For the last five years as an Army officer, I prepared myself and my soldiers to destroy enemies on the battlefield if required.
I don't find it radical to demand more respect for the welfare of our fellow living beings and better quality food. I find it common sense.
Why The Humane League
The Humane League has proven effective at creating real change through corporate pledges, new legislation, and shifting public discourse. They're moving society toward a future where we can all enjoy better quality food without subjecting animals to needless suffering.
This isn't about perfection - it's about progress. It's about creating a world where we can shop at every grocery store and restaurant with confidence that products were raised humanely.
Join the Challenge
Runners: Whether you can commit to 10km, 25km, or 100km per week, pledge to donate $1 per kilometer you complete.

Every kilometer run and every dollar donated moves us closer to a future where animals can live with dignity, and we can eat with integrity.
